Walkman - Rumors of its Death May be Exaggerated

Back in the 70's, it revolutionized how we listened to music. A generation (or two?) of walkers and joggers took to the streets with their tunes on their hip for the very first time. Before that, I guess people just didn't jog. And they sang songs like "The Happy Wanderer" while walking.

But Sony has posted that they are no longer producing the Walkman for the Japanese market.? LA Times story. The Walkman played cassette tapes, an ancient data recording format almost as antiquated as vinyl records.

Still can't picture it? It was the orignal iPod. OK, now do you understand, you youngsters? Now get off my lawn!

The LA Times reports, however, that Sony will still be producing and selling the Walkman for the US audience. Some of us are just old diehards.? We want to listen to Olivia Newton John and Hall & Oates on the cassette tapes our boyfriends gave us in 1977.

What music do you listen to while walking?
